The grains-flows at a uniform rate through the feed gate and is spread acros the entire width. The first cleaning operation is the separation of all larger and smaller particles by sieving. All impurities which are bigger than the grains like straw, strings, big stones etc, removes by the first sieve & all impurities smaller than the grain. For example sand broken kernels & small seeds removes with the help of sand sieve.

The next important step is the sorting into a heavy and mixed fraction, with particles of identical size being separated on the basis of their difference in specific gravity. Heavy particles come into contact with the oscillating sieve bottom andflow towards the final destoning section, whereas clean grain floats on the cushion of air towards the material

Another operation is cleaning by aspiration system which is designed for separation of low density particles such as dust, hulls, chaff, shriveled kernels and small seeds from the grains. The seperating action can be varied by changing the air velocity.
